I am thinking about making enquiries regarding a Jeanneau (not sure of the pronunciation) 24 Sun Calypso, that it sitting on it's trailer in the marina I use. It was last registered for Loch use in 2007 and looks as if it has not been used in that time. I've never seen anybody at the boat and it is looking pretty much neglected. My question is, would a boat this size be suitable for solo sailing? bearing in mind that I am relatively new to sailing yachts, more used to power craft.

I have been unable to find any reference on the web to this model but 24ft is a good size to start singlehanded sailing on as it will be relatively light to handle for things like berthing etc. You probably need to be more specific about where you want to sail but for short distance coastal sailing in reasonable weather for one or 2 people it's probably a good place to start. Boats that have been sitting around can have a number of problems so it will need a good survey. Why not post a photo or 2 so we can see better what she is?

Sorry guy's, it's a Sun Odyssey 24 Doh! Yoda, I would sail/keep this boat on the West Coast of Scotland as they are familiar waters to me. I have got used to sailing my Hurley 20 solo, but the Jeanneau looks massive compared to it ;) I would definitely get a professional survey carried out on this boat due to it's value.

The Sun Oddity range is Jeanneau's cruising offering, so expect it to be relatively benign; easy to handle, moderate performance, comfortable below (for its size).

Cheers Ken, The term Oddity makes it sound like a crappy boat :D

I'm afraid you have to be specific, SO24.1 or SO24.2? There isn't an SO24!
Jeanneau don't make it easy.
Old model details at http://previousboats.jeanneau.com/2007/index.cfm?r=gamme&p=famille&id_type=1&ancien=1&#Sun Odyssey and

Thanks for the links, from memory and from the links, it may be the 24.1.

We owned an outboard version of the 24.2 called Calypso. Sold her 2007. Had a Mercury 8HP outboard and was a cracking boat. Handling with an OB with wind was hard and Marina handling not easy as lots of windage and OB. However great accommodation and she sailed like a large Laser. Was fun, responsive and easy to handle.

Happy to answer questions.
