Look what turned up at Tedders today

Lovely photos and video! It was designed and built by a local man Mark Edwards and has been moored up recently just below Richmond Bridge, from where Ramage & I took our earlier photos.

It will be used for momentous trips in the future & yes a return trip or two through Tedders.

The chap in the pictures and video in the red & white checked shirt is Mark Edwards.

Wonder what the long term plans are for it after the celebrations.

Just out of interest, and I may have really got hold of the wrong end of the stick here,in the basement of Somerset house (or poss some totally different government building ?????? is another original Royal Barge .

Oh, but soooo last Jubilee....

Looks magnificent and I do hope the two kids will have photos and maybe a copy of your video to help them remember a truly wonderful experience.

However, I can't help thinking that I would have liked a few more fenders out if it had been mine ! :D

Agreed, a fantastic example of craftsmanship. Craftsmanship of this quality is perhaps where we need to compete in the current world market.
Would have liked however to have seen the kids at least in lifejackets!!

No ply in it apparently.

Lots of 'Sweet Chestnut from one of the estates of Prince Charles' though.

Don't know why people are being disparaging , it is a very impressive boat. Not financed by taxpayers , so nothing to grumble about.

Nice to know that there are still people capable of such work , and the country doesn't just turn out endless jelly mould sailboats and cruisers.

I have walked past it every night at Richmond watching them finish it off, looks very impressive including the two life rafts and honking great Delta on the front...

Well, I, for one, am glad to see what we Brits can do when we put our minds to it. Pure craftsmanship is always worthy of commendation. I just hope the long term future of the barge can be handled successfully and that it does not become a victim of circumstance once the celebrations are over.

I think it is great that someone has built something like this. It is their money they can do what they like.

Wonder how many of the craftsmen who built the boat were Polish or similar ,bearing in mind our woeful attempts at keeping our native craft skills alive.?

MSO at Brentford have 100% Polish metal workers (son was one of their ME's before he moved on) They didn't tend to get involved with woodwork side of things however. Not sure which Brentford Yard was involved.
