All things being equal I will be departing from my Solent stamping grounds and pottering about up your way soon. I plan to launch my 6.5m RIB at Penton Hook and motor down to Chiswick for an overnight stop and then up to look at central london the following day, recovering at Putney.

Any tips and hints gratefully received, like do you think I will need to pre-book Limehouse for a lunch stop over?

I think you will need a reservation with Limehouse - you'll certainly need a reservation at Ramsay's pub if you want lunch. Mind, there are alternatives on Narrow Street.

No real problems through London - just remember the speed limit is 8 kts above Wandsworth Bridge, recommended 12 kts below there until clear of the Pool - which you'll barely be if you're only going down as far as Limehouse.

Worth carrying VHF, though no requirement to call anyone on this route in your boat - London VTS on Ch 14 for that bit of the river.

Any other questions happy if you PM me - I live here!

Thanks RealTarga,

Are there any pubs with mooring outside around Hampton. I know of one or two much further up river but probably too much to expect in that area, is it?

Ye Old Swan in Thames Ditton has a mooring right out the front, or is it the back? Otherwise, moor up at Hampton Court Palace and walk towards Hampton Bridge, cross the river and a couple of pubs there and a good selection of restaurants.

You could moor just past Garricks Temple ( on the right ) and go to the Bell.

Or head up to Sunbury Lock and moor at either the Flowerpot or the Phoenix.

If you head through Sunbury , The Weir is at the head of the cut and has moorings too.

If you fancy a beer at Teddington , The Anglers has a pontoon and is in our weirstream. Just tell the fishing oiks to bugger off ( even though the pontoon has a large No Fishing sign on it ) ...
