For anyone who is still following the build of my new boat, here's a picture that shows how far along she is now.
EURO1600-1.jpg

That finish has taken nearly 4 months in the paint shop to achieve. Hopefully I'll make next season having missed the last 3!!

Beautiful.

Adrian I was hoping you would post more news. She looks absolutely beautiful, well done so far. Have you got that finish by doing a full steel boat fairing job, using bog?

Post some more pics please

Re: Your wish is my command!

Fab. You could play football on the flybridge?

More details needed. How did you get the finish, was it bogged? What engines? The fybridge stairs are quite steep, if you are carrying a tray of beer glasses and bone china? Where is she being built - looks a posh shed? What's happening inside her?

More details

She's being put together in Holland, best place for a steel boat.

The whole hull was grid blasted to SA1. Then an epoxy primer coat applied all over. Faired with 2 pack filler and flatted with P150 (twice). Faried and flatted with P240 (twice). 50 micron midcoat and flatted P320 (twice). Then 2 topcoat layers at 125 microns and 200 microns. Below the waterline is a new ceramic coating. The decks are finished with the same material as used on Pickup truck beds in the 'States.

The main engine is an Iveco Aifo SRM 8210. The wing engine is an Iveco Aifo 8041. Theres also a Fischer generator and a combined aircon/heating unit.

Those stairs aren't as steep as they look but you can get a nose bleed from standing on top of that flybridge; not much chance of getting her down any rivers!

The interior is being built by myself. I've just finished building and equipping a 20m x 3m workshop to assist with that.

Re: More details

Thanks Adrian. You're in big trouble for not keeping us better posted on this project. :) She looks superb. We need an update every few weeks. you are right about holland - best steel boat building on the planet. Also best internal carpentry, at least at the best yards

Re: More details

It uses a ceramic coating as an antifoul. The theory being that it is so smooth nothing can stick to it. It's quite unusual on a boat that size but is reasonably common on super yachts and even some commercial ships.

In theory I won't have to do anything to it apart from power wash the slime off every couple of years.

Been studying pics some more. You need to paint the stair risers white awlgrip, no? Both the flybr and the transom stairs.

Re: More details

Summer 2001 the planning started. The first steel was laid in January 2002.

You can find more info on her at http://www.bruceroberts.com/public/HTML/EURO16.htm

Theres a good naked picture of my boat on there as well! Plus the one of her painted.

All the interior designs (apart from the one with the workshop area) were designed by my wife and are what my boat will be like internally. After seeing a Trader at Southampton this year we will probably put split bunks in both side cabins though.

Re: detail detail

The upperworks are actually a pale cream colour. Just looks white in the photos.

I've been think about making up some teak treads with stainless steel highlights for the stairs.

Re: detail detail

Yup teak treads would be better on the stairs - 100% necessary if you move it to warm place and walkabout barefoot. If you put the treads on, you will absolutely need to paint the risers in the off white, methinks

Sorry to hassle. Much easier to sit here at keyboard telling you this drivel than it is to go and build a steel boat :)
