about the Oxford Canal and (possibly) how long it would take to cruise the Thames and Oxford canal.
Firstly there are two companies who have suitable boats:-
Oxfordshire narrowboats/
who would be my preferred company.
They have three narrowboats on the "upper-upper" Thames, but a much larger base at Lower Heyford a short way up the Oxford. They make a considerable effort to ensure that you are shown how to operate a lock and navigate their boats - before you are let loose. The boats are very smart and clean.
Heyford has it's own railway station (!) with the hire base opposite
The other company is Anglo Welsh based an Eynsham on the Thames. They are not as fastidious at ensuring that hirers are competent and the cater for larger groups, so the boats can be a bit scruffy.
We have cruised the Oxford ring many times and it took us about 14 days, but we do tend to crack on - if you want to be more leisurely then three weeks should do it - not exactly long term and either company could accommodate that easily.
If you go in low season (May / early June can be nice) then you may be able to "cut a deal". Whichever way be aware that the prices can be a bit expensive.
