I shall be landing on Long Island on Sunday at 2' clock to present the letter to the groundsman.
Anyone wishing to be there would be fine by me, the tide should have dropped by then so there will be plenty of room on the foreshore but please don’t go on the actual Island itself. I have asked South Today if they would like to be there also. I would like to add that I have no animosity towards the Rempstone Estate, simply seeking to clarify the situation created by them.

This is great. Sadly I can't make it but please take some photos and come back here with a full write up.

Where is YM/PBO - surely this would make a great little story ?

Does anyone have their editors email to hand to alert them to this thread ?

For everyones benefit the previous two threads were

thread1

and

thread2

Shame the range in Poole is only about a meter ! How much land are we actually talking about ! But the principle IS important.

Interestingly - I presume this is the same for all the other islands in Poole ? i.e You CAN land on the foreshore ?

FYI I dropped an email to Dick Durham to see if they are interested in this. Would have though "Power of Forums defeats Rempstone Estates in foreshore battle" has a nice ring to it. But I am sure others could do better.. ;-)

I am itching to write back to Wilsons but will wait until the "invasion force" have done their job as I don't want to steal the OP's thunder.

Rember as Winston said "We will fight them on the beaches - but only fight as far as the MHW mark..." /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

can't think why the same rules wouldn't apply!...

As no-one ever seems to use the beech and the Queen does not go to Osborne house, it is a bit selfish to maintain a total ban on landing. Perhaps we should write to her....

Years and years ago I rented a cottage for the winter from the Ryders that looked over onto Long Island. The family I met were charming, unpretentious and generous -eg : "cut all the firewood you want and we'll haul it back on the trailer". Maybe the muppet now on the island as security has been engaged by agents and selected because of his clumsiness and ignorance. It would be a shame for this to develop into a confrontation with the Ryders themselves but there is a principle to support. Good luck to all who land on the foreshore.

Actually no. I can't quote anything (maybe someone can) but I think Osbourne house is a special case. When Queen Vic was in residence she got it changed to ensure that "she" owned ALL the shore down to the LW mark. This very much the exception though. Can't remember where I read this though.

I also seem to remember something like this is the dim distant past. Perhaps I will write to her - but only for Raggies with dogs........ and poop bags.

Presumably only Corgi's will be allowed /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just thought people might appreciate a picture of the very foreshore we are fighting over...

Complete with SWMBO and DWMBO (Dog Who Must Be Obediant - yeah right !)

Thanks to everyone for their comments and support, I would love to see as many people there as we can, after all its going to be a nice day any way and I hope this issue will be resolved. I have talked to the Evening Echo and South Today so they might be there as well.

I have borrowed a canoe for Sunday. Can anyone tell me where best to launch from with suitable car parking? Thanks.

I am not local but Google Earth and Boatlaunch reckon Branksea Avenue slip is a good bet. I am sure you will be able to launch and it is only a short paddle but sometime the info on Boatlaunch is out of date so I wouldn't bank on the car park being free as it states.

Have a look here slip

Gutted I can't make this myself now !

That'll be the the Lake Road foreshore. There's not much of a slip but it's gravel/sand underfoot and pretty firm. There's not a car park there but otherwise Boatlaunch is spot on. Drive down to the slip and on to foreshore and dump your gear/boat and then find somewhere to park your car on the road. You shouldn't have too much trouble parking within a 100 yards or so normally.

Jet-ski's, small fishing boats use all the time and many of the boats on the moorings out towards Arne come ashore in the tender there. Watch the height on the frame if you drive on to the foreshore with a canoe on the roof!
