Chap from the echo called to say he heard that long island has been sold to a local builder he thinks. I hope the new owner realises that people can land up to the mean high water mark as I will be doing this season.

Sorry to bump an old thread but just interested in this. I went for a walk at Arne today and thought of the day’s and evenings I spend on Long Island as a kid!
I was wondering what the latest was on the island? The barge for the security guard is still there but looked a bit shabby. Does the islands owner still have someone looking after it? I know there are lots of no landing signs but does this mean that you can’t land below the high water line?

The security barge seems to be used as a mooring pontoon with no one on board. I haven't seen anyone apart from the 'owners' land there since it was sold. Anything below the high water line is mainly mud and marsh. Whilst they arrive in high speed boats they always slow right down and create no real wash amongst the anchored boats enjoying the peace and quiet. The same applies to Round Island. I also wonder what they have done inside the island, but google satellite view does not show much.

I don't think they have done anything on the Island, apart from putting up loads of Keep Off signs and mooring that barge there.
Re Round island, was surprised just how big that 'eco' house is, its huge!

Poole Harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world (behind Sydney), and the largest island in Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island, is the site of the first ever Scout camp.

There is also a house (not eco) and possibly more on Round Island as this was owned by a neighbour of ours when I was a kid. The Green Island House was used for charitable purposes as a get away for disabled people and their families prior to the current ownership. It was massive as it housed the volunteers too (including my Mum sometimes!)
