long battens- where from??

Hi all, just making some boom sail bags and need some 30mm fi-glass battens to stiffen the top edges. Can only find 1 meter lengths in catalogues, but need approx 8-9 feet. Tried some uPvc window edging but too floppy. Any ideas for possible suppliers??

why would you spend money on sail battens when there is a multitude of cheaper alternative materials that will fit into the pocket of your sail stowage bag.

G'day to you too OSO, I've tried 30mm x 5mm upvc "cloaking" strip, the size is right but they are too bendy. I've just found a previous thread where someone has recommended plastic hot water pipe, so I'll certainly look at that before spending on the battens, which as you say are quite pricey. Any further ideas gratefully received.........

How about oval PVC electrical trunking? I'm going to try that next year, I think it may be better with something lighter than fibre battens. Stuff like this ..

Yes, worth a look. Certainly the fi-glass battens are quite heavy. Depends on how stiff the pvc is I guess, so no substitute for actually getting hold of a piece and trying to bend it. I think they sell that conduit in B n Q, so I think that's my next port of call.
