But I thought you said you couldn't get fuel in Ostend? Don't want to go to Ostend 'empty handed' only to find I can't get any when I arrive. Now I'm confused. Doesn't take much.

There is no marine fuel pontoon.
Nearest one is Blankenberge - 8NM up the coast.
There are however petrol stations where you can get white diesel for cars.
I assume you would also get your white UK diesel from a normal petrol station.

So how far is the nearest fuel station then? Bearing in mind I will have to carry full cans back to the boat and I'm only a wee slip of a girl (I wish!)

There's one by the Mercator roundabout, and IIRC a BP one the other side of the Mecator dock.

Full Circle carries 2 folding sack barrows usually pressed into service for ermm, Wine and Beer.
As these fold you could easily get them in a Taxi out to the station, and then trundle your Diesel plunder back to the harbour.

For the sake of approx £1.50, I'd rather have surety of supply, and not carry fuel any distance.

After all Belgium is a well known third world country - I bet diesel is rationed too (only available when there's an 'R' in the month).
FFS: As I said earlier; just take a can (or 2) of red across and when you get there dump it in your main fuel tank. There should be plenty of room by the time you arrive.
It's not like the Douane is waiting to check every yacht's tank as soon as it arrives.

I have known Stork III for years and he was only trying to be helpful. I am sure he did not mean any slur on Belgium and its facilities but just trying to find a solution that would be convenient for me. If it looks like we will be motoring, I will do as you suggest as I will then have room in my tank for more fuel. If it looks like we shall be sailing, I may well consider Pete's (Stork III) idea.

I bought one this morning - XM braid on braid £1.35 a metre. Bet it's more at Fox's for any bit of string. It may get recycled for other jobs.

I hope you lighten up for the trip to Ostend, or you will be a proper downer on the party.
I was stopped within 50yds of leaving the lock at Flushing, by the Customs cutter cruising in the inner basin. I would not suggest that anybody carries red in cans anywhere near the dutch coast.
Like Bernie, my tankage capacity is relatively small, I would not cross the NS without some reserve fuel.

We now have a 'Taxi' lined up for anyone needing to go get fuel. Available Friday evening, Saturday Morning, and Saturday evening. Sort of. I believe the 'Taxi' owner runs on Red himself. Wine that is.
