Hi there, I've been a member of the Chelsea Canoe Club for a while now and one of the other members recommended this forum. I'm constantly surprised by how many Londoners don't take advantage of the great resource we have in this river, and even though there's articles like this about everything a Londoner can do on the water it seems like whenever I mention I'm in the Canoe club I get funny looks from everyone.

Do you find that people don't really think about the Thames as a place for recreation and travel, just as a divider between North and South London?

If you take some time to read some posts in this forum you will see that there are many of us who take great benefit and pleasure from our great river. However I never ceased to be amazed, for instance, at the number of people who have absolutely no idea that the river at Windsor or Marlow etc is the same as the one that flows through London, that you can actually get from Marlow to Oxford by river provided you go in the right direction, that there are beautiful villages with riverside pubs and restaurants and countless walks with wonderful scenery. I'm quite happy keeping a lot of the jewels to myself however.

Hi and welcome to the forum

You are right about the lack of use on the river btw you will find a lot of controversy here towards rowing boats but also not towards canoests who are a good bunch as opposed to the robos
