There is an invite in the pub recommendation section for anyone that wants to do the London. Why it's there, I've no idea but for all you athletes...

Ah, I see the link - 8 glasses a day and you'll be fit enough and where better to get the practice in?

Anybody see the prog on Wednesday night telly about a wee slip of a girl who entered some 5 day Canadian endurance race (ski, snowshoe, bike) from scratch and did v. well - part of the winning team. i was dead impressed. (unless it was TV cheating).

Just followed it through. Its for the King Gerorges Fund for sailors who last year had 35 places in the marathon

They are basically looking for volunteers at present and then a draw will take place for the places. Apparently last year they had 120 applicants.

Thoroughly rcommend it doing the Marathon if only once. It does take up a lot of your time, and it hurts like hell but its a day you'll remember for the crowd and the atmosphere.

Retired gracefully from this sort of running after my belly button popped out due to an umbelliacal hernia.

Running is good for you.....honest !

Ooh, Mark! Are you sure the running didn't bring on the hernia?

I've done a couple of half-marathons which is quite enough for me and many H.A.C. chums have done the London in the past, one several times - even at 63!

Not for me. I can walk all day but running I keep to before the wind . . .

I'm almost positive the running did cause the hernia.

I was reasonably serious about running for several years training nearly every day in the build up for a marathon clocking up 35 - 40 miles a week.

I began to feel pains across my stomach whilst running and after a long run one Sunday morning, I was lying in the bath thinking 'my belly button didn't used to look like that'.

Having had the good sense to marry a nurse to care for my injuries, she confirmed my worst fears. A little bit of key hole surgery and all's well again.

Other niggling injuries made me accept it was time to slow down a bit.

That said, I wouldn't put any one off trying to run a marathon, especially London as its a great day out....it just hurts a bit !

Well, you are all bonkers in my book.

I'm more than happy to put a few quids into the sponsorship bin though, if someone wants to take up the challenge.

Re: Running tip

Actually big sticking plasters are better for nipples...vaseline works between the legs :-)
