Last year there were some good special offers for the boat show. Two of us want to go on the 7th but offers of advance purchase save just £3 on £28 and for that you have to pay a booking fee on top. Sailing Today have a Three for the price of Two offer but that does not help. Or if you have a BMIF Credit Card you acn pay £22 plus the booking fee.

Anybody got any tips? -- other than getting a job there! [WORK is a four letter word]

If you don't mind quoting 'Saga Magazine' I believe you get £2 off the on line fee of £12.50. Plus the booking fee of £1.25 per order.

The daily Telegraph normally does the best deal on tickets. have a look in the paper over the next week or so for the advert.

If you are buying tickets through yachting monthly and quoting IPC you get a free pint of the black stuff at the show.

I think after last January's huge increase in attendance numbers they are probably full of themselves and have decided to make even more money this year by not offering discounts worth a salt. However, I would like to remind people that last January the food prices were out of this world and my advice is to take your own. It was just such a huge rip-off or was it me?

Came through the letter box wednesday morning. I'm normally last to get mine !

Noticed all the Jan saily mags are out in the newsagents today.

I've got some free tickets - All you've got to do is spend £/forums/images/icons/shocked.gif /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif,000 on a boat and the manufacturer will give you free tix!

Really, why should we pay at all to get in? They want us there to buy their products, we don't pay to walk in a high street store so why should we pay to get close enough to spend money at a show, let alone be ripped off for eating & drinking there as well!

My local Honda dealer when there is a promotion on or a new model sends out invites and provides food/drink but that wasn't my point, I just don't really see why we should pay just to get through the doors of the 'shop' where we will undoubtedly spend a lot of money on the gear/boats they are selling. If Woolworths or Tesco charged an entry fee we would challenge it, or say a big shopping centre like Lakeland or West Quay in Southamton, again we would have something to say if they charged for tickets at the door.

hmm. They charge because they can. My degree is in engineering, not economics, however i believe in a free market economy the 'value' of something is defined as that which the market will withstand. Based on the fact that Excel can be packed to nigh on breaking point at 10 to 15 quid a ticket I would say that that is 'fair value' as defined by the market.
I happen to think its good value and I always enjoy my days at the boat shows. Its 30-50 quid each to spend 90 minutes at a football match,ditto for a couple of hours at a west end show, 7 quid each for 90-120 minutes in a cinema. I think 15 quid is good value for what I think is an enjoyable day out.
Besides If you're are actually buying, bought, in the process of buying or seriously thinking about buying a boat then you should be able to get some free tickets from one of the manufactures - I was at SIBS and have got some again for LIBS.

Agree, the Telegraph has the best offer - If I remember corectly about £5 off the door ticket price, BUT you have to look VERY carefully at the advert - it will be in the small print. SWMBO spotted it first; my friend bought a Telegraph for a week and didn't see it!(but it was there when pointed out!).
I'll post the details when I spot it (we only get it on Saturday for the Gardening section)

Thanks to eveyone and in particular Skyva 2, for your help. I have ordered two at 25.25 and will pretend we are OAPs. We decided not to get in for 13 as disabled with a helper.
[The shame of buying the Telgraph and having to look inside was just too high even if you then get in for free.]

Are you being manipulated?

Why do you go to the Boat Show, it costs an arm and a leg, and is rather hard work.

Are we being manipulated? Have the organisers pumped into us the idea The Boat Show is a must see? Have the organisers wound up the yachting press into telling us how wonderful it is going to be?

Is this the Emperors new clothes? There are some very good marketing men in the UK, and I admire then, but I am not going to the Boat Show
