warning to anyone using their boat in the solent area:

1. A number of pieces of Timber approx 3m long and 100mm thick have been reported adrift in the vicinity of St Helens Anchorage to the east of the Isle of Wight. Timber has also been reported close to the main Solent approach channels.

2. It is likely that this timber is part of a large amount reported adrfit in the channel over the last few weeks.

I live 1 mile to the West of Littlehampton Entrance and came across huge quantities of this timber this morning when walking the dogs on the beach. It is moving eastwards. My son and I brought about a dozen of the largest pieces up above the high water line to prevent it re-entering the water on tonights high tide. They were very heavy and would constitue a real risk to small vessels. Beware as there are many smaller pieces of timber also.
Incidently the amount of large pieces of flotsom and jetsam recently found on our beach is disturbing - If you are out and about in the Solent keep a sharp lookout as if you manage to impale yourself on one of these lumps of timber you will suffer significant damage.

Hmmm, having driven into pretty big logs at various speeds and hull angles in mobos, I'm not to worried about bashing a log (even a big one) at seven knots...
