Logistics costs.

The second point is that the CMR insurance that truck companies have will probably not cover the full value of the boat (I think its calculated on a cost per weight basis) so you will have to get additional insurance (from a marine insurer)

Very important point that.

CMR insurance is pathetic at best so with anything of any sort of value get all risks marine insurance. (all risks doesn't of course cover all risks but thank nothing)

same goes for ocean shipment (or air shipment if your feeling really flush). make sure you get specific insurance to cover your new pride and joy / project (delete as necessary)

Surprised that no-ones suggested on her own bottom.... now that'd be a hell of a delivery trip! <kidding>

As it happens that's not so daft. Its 350 to Mahon. A further 530 to Gib. 450 to Porto. 500 to Brest. 235 home. Total ~2k miles.

Say I get 1mpg, I need 2000 gallons. Say I pay £1 a litre, its £9k of fuel.

Aksherley, if I had the time I'd do it and I think I could do much better than 1mpg.

Plus marina charges, cost of rectifying breakdowns and cost of your time sitting in marinas waiting for good weather!

Should make a good Utube vid though;)
