I run nav software, Seapro, but it doesn't log all the NMEA data. Does anyone know of a program which will create a full record? Ideally I would like to be able to select which data to record and at what intervals but if all data were recorded then summarising it could be one of those jobs for the long winter evenings. Examples of data currently not recorded: wind, sea temp.

Further to what I said. What you need is a terminal emulation program. One I used to use before Windows and Hyperlink was Procomm which I used with DOS software, I think it went on to work with windows. The great thing was that there was full control over how capture was commenced and what strings were captured, there was a whole suite of triggers filters and commands. A number of PDA's have similar programs.

I think what you're refering to is the Hyperterminal part of windows.

It'll do the job fine. You just need to set it up to connect direct to the serial port at 4800 baud. Then from the "Transfer" menu, set "Capture Text" and specify the file name. Away you go.

I've used this plenty of times to confirm I have the correct data out of a GPS.

Thanks to oldhand for the suggested software. I'll be downloading the demo version. I've also come across a program called Windmill which has a past version available for free download.
