I need some suggestions on re-wiring an ancient Smith Industries Speed/distance log. It is an electronic impellor type, and the cable to the impellor unit has become detached from the head unit. It appears to be a coax with a two pair core. Does anyone know the connection configurartion on the head unit or how I could find out?
Cheers
Jon

I would guess that the outer screen is just that. Connect the two wires, if they are back to front it wont' do any damage just wont work perhaps. My log registers the speed whichever way the paddle is turning!!

I'd guess the same. It is probably a fixed relay with a rotating magnet that makes/breaks the voltage when the impellor turns. Checking the continuity in both directions with a meter will confirm this. My trusty Stowe trailing log is the same.
