Some time ago I saw advertised a solid state log transducer that coud be used with any paddle wheel log e.g. a NASA clipper. I would like to use one of these, however I have forgotten what they were called. Does anyone have any experience with them? I would appriciate any info on them.

Re: Log Transducer

Yes, Airmar make an ultrasonic transducer which gives a "standard" 2,000 pulses per km (if memory serves). They are expensive and no longer generally offered by instrument makers. I don't know whether this is because they are less than reliable or because they can't sell them at the price.

Re: Log Transducer

I seem to recall looking at these a few years ago and coming to the conclusion that it was not worth it.

I seem to recall hearing that they were potentially unreliable in shallow water - but I may be wrong about that
