Log Paddlewheel Placement

Some one has fitted two water inlets by the engine on my boat.
I used one for the water inlet for the engine and the other is blanked off.

I was thinking of taking the seacock out and putting the new log paddlewheel in the hole.

This would make it quite close to the keel would this cause a bad reading from the disturbed water flow over the keel?

No I think considering you already have the hole you should give it a try. That is if the hole size is OK. With GPS these days a log is not so critical for navigation so go for it. Perhaps the most important thing is to be able to reach the paddle on the inside for cleaning. olewill
 
It normally goes ahead of the keel in undisturbed flow, but as olewill says access is vital.
