Hi all,
For some reason my log gauge seems to have gone up the creek with a freely turning paddle wheel (Ha,Ha,I'm sorry!)
The gauge reads 0.01knots all the time.Yet when I took out the paddle wheel thing, it was turning perfectly well, all the connections were ok and nothing looked broken.
So what could be wrong with it?
P.s I am still strugling to get the burgee to stay up (its probably blown away now!)

Ok Moose well since no-one else has got a clue about this here's my twopennuth.

When you take it out, you say that it spins OK. So when you spin is does it give a reading on the gauge at all? Give it a good flick to see. If that doesn't register, then try blowing it so that it's spinning really fast. Is it giving a reading? On mine I could get it up to about 40 knots just by blowing it really hard like.

So you've now got a reading or knot (that's a joke geddit)

If it's reading something, then it means that when it's in the proper tube thing, there's an obstruction there somewhere so stick your finger or a stick down tha hole and give it a sort of wipe out. All the time you're doing this of course water is pouring in through the pipe thingy but that's another problem and your bilge pump should be able to cope with that.

If you're not getting a reading, then either it's a transducer problem or a wiring\connection problem and that's just a question of elimination. Try to borrow another transducer and see if that solves it etc.

GOOD ARTICLE A FEW WEEKS AGO.

WHEN YOU TAKE THE LOG OUT PUSH A SMALL PIECE OF SPONGE INTO THE HOLE.

when you are ready to put the log back just push the sponge through and into the water. This will save a lot of water coming in.

Sponge can be retrieved by a fishing net when it comes up.

hope this helps.

When I turn it, there is no reading so I suppose it must be something else.
And I have this special bung thing that fits in the hole so there is no problem with the water.
Thanks

Probably a poorly manufactured cheapo design made by under paid over worked slave labour in some sweat shop somewhere and not a CE marked proper one! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I've got a spare NASA transducer if you want it. But to be fair the reason I changed it was that I couldn't get the new Duet to work, so took the transducer back to NASA and they tested it in their workshop and it worked fine. Just didn't work when connected on the boat. So bought a new one and the DG worked fine then.

If you want it, PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post. It's no use to me, just gathering dust.

My local chandlery allowed me to 'borrow' a new transducer to see if that was the problem, it was so I bought it. (well actually had to pay for it but would have taken it back if it didn't solve the problem)
