Having just sold our house that we built 20 years ago to start a new lifestyle which incidentally includes purchasing a nice yacht, time came to clear the loft, came across all my old electronic mags and test equipment dating back to the seventies! I didn’t have the heart to skip them, just reading a few in front of an old range fire at the cottage we are renting for a year, I was surprised to find several circuits relating to boat use, and various other gismo’s that could be useful !! So if anyone needs a circuit of any description I may have the answer. If you want pm with your requirements I will wade through them and email them back. If you find it useful please make a small donation to RNLI

1st off the pile!
simple water level alarm Everyday Electronics 1978 simple to make a couple of transistors a 555 ic and small spkr type used in 70's 80's telephones 4 resistors 3 capacitors a couple of small plastic boxes 2 probes made from anything but you could use brass rod, runs off a 9v pp3 but you could include in the curcuit a small transformer from 12v to 9v or voltage dropper!! to run off boats batteries. Probe case can be mounted in the bilges while the alarm can be uptop! via screened cable.

Would that work with diesel?
I'd like to be able to top up from a can without poluting the sea/river. Could I attach it to the side of my funnel to tell when full?

Hi Bob
Yes it wil work with most liquids, there are various ways you could fit it! you could mount all the components and sensor rods in one case and stick this to the funnel, just switch it on when required, it is very simple to make, and cheap, only 9v so safe to use. you can change the sensitivity by altering the potential between the sensors via a resistor!
