thanks for all the advice , does anyone know by any chance what make of windless would be on my 1999 phantom 38 ? I am away from the boat at the moment.

Without trying to muscle in on petem's thread but quite relevant as it involves a lowfrans marlin windlass.
after reading this thread about regular lubricating etc - I have found my windlass is not working and hearing a clicking noise at the control box so thinking its the solenoids inside I have ordered a new equivalent ready to be installed.
at the same time I have found that when trying to use the handle the whole unit wants to turn which after reading this thread has me thinking has the control box gone or is it due to lack of maintenance from previous owners that it is seized and requires stripping down and cleaning?
