Lofrans Marlin windlass help

As it seems to be a popular discussion at the moment - I am after some advice on a lofrans Marlin windlass.
Both on how to use it ( this will be my first time)
How it works (thinking mine may have seized)
What is it like to service - do's and don'ts

I dont know your winch but they have three parts. A motor that connects to a gearbox that turns the gypsey.

Be VERY careful ... if it has indeed seized dont try to use it. Mine was unknowingly seised. Pushed the button - nothing but whining. Gearbox stripped - E1000 in mallorca.

Taking them to bits is not difficult - so if you suspect seized then drop the gearbox from underneath - check, get it going / replace then re assemble. It will save you the cost of a gearbox !
