Hi just fitted Caymen 88 , do any one know where the oil level is ,
mine has a hole in the front covered by a plug ,
is the right level when the oil just drip out of the hole?
According to one dealer , you need to put In 0.5 of SAE 90 and his only advice is to empty it first so you know you have the right amount , that silly , it would mean you need to unbolt is every time .

Dear sailaboutvic, the only time you need to add oil to the windlass is only when you service it - in which case you need to remove it. Regarding oil capacity and type, please check the link http://www.lofrans.com/filemanager/uploads/images/faq/oil.png (you can also find it at the FAQ section but also Library Section at Lofrans.com).
For any further assistance, if you use the Lofrans contact form http://www.lofrans.com/contact, a team member will be able to help you out.
Best wishes
Thanks for taken the time to reply .
One would think there a way of checking the level without empty the windless .
To remove it now would be quite a job now it fittered , and I guess people who's have had them on for some time would find it difficult coinciding one part is alli and the stud are SS , ok I used a barrier cream but even that after some year could make it difficult to shift .

My +35 year old windlass is the same, fill up through the level indicator hole. Use a vacuum device to extract it e.g. a large plastic syringe or a typical oil removal pump, both with a suitable small diameter hose.

Dear sailaboutvic
basically there is no need to refill/add oil to the windlass unless there is a leak. The windlass doesn't waste a lot of oil. During servicing it is important to remove it so you can clean the space around and check the parts (service details in the manual). At that time you can empty and refill the oil.
Regarding the rest of the comments in this thread - we do appreciate the feedback and we'll pass it to the team that creates the manual.
Thank you again.

Once again thanks .
There wasn't an manual only a wire diragram, although it did come with a CD, maybe I need to check if the manual is on that .
thanks
