Lofran cayman

It's taken almost five days on and off but at last it's finish .
The closes photo I have before starting was after I applied a thin layer of white epoxy so to explore all the low spots and you can see the whole bottom has been eaten away and not just by the studs.

Ended up epoxy two sheet of 18mm marine ply to gather ,
then give them 9 coats of epoxy and finished off adding a colour to the last two coats .

The base of the windlass , I used an epoxy filler to make it flat again .

I used sikiflex to seal the windlass to the base to stop any water getting underneath .
Not a professional job but working on my knees on the pontoon laying up GRP ,
using what tools I had to hand ,
it turned out ok .View attachment 125143
Vic, please tell me I'm wrong, but from the photo it looks as if your windlass is mounted on a hinged deck hatch.

No your not ,
I wanted to be able to lift the windlass at a angle for when the boat was heeling at anchor .
NO I'm joking .

The anchor hatch was cut in half when I fitted so the front part can be open,
the back half has a SS L plate under it which is bolted onto the forward bulkhead.
Its the only other way to fit ,
Other wise it was to bring it further back that ment drilling into the forward berth and having a plate showing in the berth and projecting bolts very unsightly .

Wel spotted Norman

I have always thought the yacht designers and the boat builders arranged yachts to have the maximum accomodation and the remaining space at the bow, being simply too small for anything that would enhance the beauty of the interior, was allocated to the 'rode' - forgetting that the owner might actually want to service his windlass. I know that anchoring is well down the priority when selling new yachts - why else have that undernourished anchor on the bow roller. The bow locker is so badly designed that the drain holes on new yachts at boat shows fill with water - think what they are like after you have punched into a few breaking seas.

But who looks in a bow locker when buying a new yacht. I have a number of such photos - its not exceptional :( . Would you really buy a yacht from these people - given their lack of attention to simple detail.

.

I was going to suggest you invested in a catamaran (as they don't heel at anchor) but then I read it again :)

i always think it strange that so many owners stow all their chain and anchor / s up in the bows , surely that can not be good for the ballance / trim of the boat ,, i ( catamaran ) stow mine about 1/3 back , half in one hull half in the other

Very good Vic, but you will understand why I was concerned. ?
