I need to replace the lock on the wheelhouse door - the previous one was a standard Chubb mortice lock, with a mixture of steel and 'brass-effect' components, and guess what the salty atmosphere has done to that!
Can anyone recommend a source of brass (I mean proper brass!) mortice locks, prefereably of equivalent dimensions to the usual domestic range? The internet seems sadly devoid of any useful sites for such a thing. Timeage have a very poor selection.

i bought a complete door from houdini. it has a mortice lock which seems to be rustproof. you could ask them if they would supply one without the door attached!

Thanks for the various replies.
Unfortunately Timeage don't have a simple straightforward mortice lock that doesn't incorporate a latch. My lock is in the bottom of a sliding door; it's a standard domestic size, 5-lever, and it would make a mess of the door to try to fit a different size or pattern or lock.
Perhaps if I dowsed a new (steel) one with enough grease it might last longer; or I could replace it annually.....

Steel locks

I fitted a domestic patio door security lock to my companionway washboard almost ten years ago. In view of its steel construction and low cost I was quite prepared to replace it every year. Despite infrequent oiling it is still in remarkably good condition and I have never seen any need to replace it.

You might find Waxoyl to be helpful in slowing corrosion and Lanolin is good too, but neither is recommended for surfaces that come into contact with you or your clothes.
