A bit like cars. A few years ago when car radios were all interchangeable a friend of a friend got so fed up with having his radio taken that he left the wires hanging out and made a sign saying "owing to repeated thefts there is no radio in this car". Got back one day to find the window smashed and written on the bottom of the sign were the words "just checking".
