Locking fuel cap

Why does every modern car have locking fuel caps (IME) but boats don't? With over £1,000 of diesel in the bigger stuff, hasn't theft been an issue?
Locally, oil tanks for central heating have been targeted

I had worried about that and then discovered that the fuel-tanks on my boat had an anti-syphon device fitted. Even if they didn't, someone would have to be very desperate to carry jerry cans through the marina to do this. There would be an awful lot of trips required. I'm sure the video cameras would capture this and the security team would probably notice too.

There have been many many instances of fuel theft on the inland waterways where access to boats along public paths is easy but I can not imagine that 'toe rags' would risk syphoning fuel from boats where they are in a secure location.

I don't worry about the fuel in my boat being stolen, but I would be more worried about things like the tender and the nav equipment being stolen.

I just hope that on my next visit to the boat I still have full tanks!!!!!!!!!

Simple yet effective solutions are around.

Idea is to allow fuel to run down but to block any non-liquid things

Google "anti theft fuel insert" and you'll se things like these ones

i would'nt worry about it.
can you imagine the damage they will do if they really want to get your fuel.
they just drill hole in peoples domestic fuel tanks(the ones people have at home sometimes)to get pass the lock's and such.
