lockers

We have a 35ft GRP hull Warrior 35 built 1978. The insides of the lockers are grey and grubby looking and I would like to freshen them up with white paint. Can I use ordinary gloss paint ( household stuff) or do I need to buy specialpaint so as not to react with the GRP?

You realy need to use the proper stuff ...wash them down with soapy water and re paint them with white (Danbuline?) anyway its a bilge paint you can get at your local chandlers.; We did all the lockers in our Westerly Conway a few years back and they still look great,it also seem to get rid of that bilge smell.
Sure somebody on here will tell you the correct name and or spelling of the stuff

Are you painting wood or GRP? Household exterior paint is ok for wood, but it won’t last like a two part marine paint, but that is about ten times the price!

A two pack Poly or Reaction Lacquer (cheaper) will do a fantastic long lasting and east to keep clean job. Also consider applying a small amount of filler in the corners and right angles prior to painting for even easier cleaning.

Almost there, it's Danboline (i think!) and I've used it in the bilge and in the cockpit. About £10 for a reasonable sized tin and it does leave a good finish.

Most marine paint manufacturers supply their own brand of Bilge Paint. I personally use Blakes but I am sure they are all about the same. Easy to apply and certainly leave a clean and smell-free finish. Filling the corners seems like a good idea but not done that myself. Good luck with the cleaning and painting. Remember preparation in the key.
