For various reasons we have largely ignored fit ting out over the past three seasons. This year we have resolved to do the job properly so will probably ask many stupid questions. Here is the first -

The cockpit lockers on Sans Serif are (were?) sealed with some kind of rubber/foam strip. Thus has degenerated into a kind of sticky goo which probably lacks the sealing qualities of the original. Slightly worryingly the same goop separates the gas locker from the main locker.

Anyone know what to seal the lockers with and where to buy it?

The boat is Rival 41 if that is relevant.

Another option is car door seals, I got some from a motor factor ( maybe PMA ) which is ' P ' shaped, with the stem of the P slotted to go over a lip, and the bulge of the P a hollow rubber tube seal - ideal for most lockers I'd think, they are for mine. :)

Thanks for that - expanded neoprene looks to be the stuff I'm after.

Perhaps check from the supplier that the adhesive is rated for high temps. I used some cheap stuff on a previous boat, and on one of those days when the deck was too hot to walk upon, the neoprene just fell off the lid, leaving fronds of very sticky adhesive goo.

Thanks - nice idea, but I don't think it would work for me. The aforementioned black glop resides at the bottom of a U shaped trough. Don't think a P section would fit.

The gas locker should be totally sealed from the other lockers and there should be an overboard drain. Not sure if the removable neoprene seals would be acceptable.

No problem with the drain, but if not neoprene then what? I've no idea how long the existing sealing material has been there but it does look like the neoprene featured on the website suggested earlier.

Once again, thanks to all.

Dunno about regulations strictly applied, but having seen a mobo explode courtesy of a gas leak, the ' overboard drain for any spilled gas ' seems the important bit to me !

.... if open at top is irrelevant if drain at bottom is open and doing it's job.

Not quite! LPG is heavier than air and if the overboard drain is clogged any leaked gas would fill the gas locker, even if the lid is a loose fit (as mine is).

(unless I have misunderstood what you mean! ;) )

Which is why I said 'if the drain at the bottom is open and doing it's job'. perhaps a communication problem or just my bad explanation.
