The Barrel on the lock for my Cockpit Locker has jammed and I can't free it up no matter how much oil I flood it with and how much wriggling of the keys I try. Does anyone know if it can be replaced independently of the whole lock. The maker ID isn't stamped anywhere on the lock. The barrel is 20mm diameter by 25mm long. Force 4 sell a similar complete assembly but the barrel is only 20mm long and its expensive into the bargain. All help gratefully received.

Try putting the cylinder in hot oil for a while. There might be several reasons, one of which could be spring failure in the pins. Not a lot to do if it is. But hot oil might free up other stickies.

As for a locksmith, unless he is friendly, likely to be more than a replacement lock.

Thanks for advice, I will hunt out a lock smith in the morning. Slightly embarrassed, should have thought of that myself!

if lock smith is no good I have found these as my union hatch lock went in the summer so needed replacement

I got mine sorted out by a competent locksmith who also happens to be a sailor; (Locks&Co., East Essex St., Dublin). He says they are actually quite a cheap product, nothing special, and the cylinder can be replaced if necessary.
These locks are standard OEM for washboards on French yachts.
Treasure the one you've got because I've just googled them and they range in price between 80 and 96 Euro!! See link:

Happy ending, just collected the repaired barrel from a local locksmith. Stripped cleaned and lubricated for a £10.00 (the lock that is). Thanks for all the help.
