Locked out Eberspacher

I think our heater has locked out after failed starts. Other than getting engineer out to look, is there any one out there who knows the sequence for clearing the lock out?

I've taken the unit off for a de-coke and clean up. Will disconnecting the unit from power for a certain length of time clear the memory?

Simple answer is NO. My heater was taken away cleaned and decoked. The engineer returned it, reinstalled it, and remade all the corroded connections. It was left running happily. An hour later it cut out. For various reasons it was several months before he could return. The reason the diagnostic tool came up with was overheating. He reckons it was air starvation in the cockpit locker, and I now have a nice 2 inch vent hole which seems to have done the trick. I believe you will get several restarts if the cut out is because of low voltage, but other reasons will give you fewer or none.

I think I may have a similar problem with an Airtronic D4. Just stopped working - and almost melted a fender in my stern locker. Now appears to have locked out, with fault code 009 the only one remaining. How did the engineer resolve your problem in the end?
Was it simple and will I have to take the same route? ££££?

I hope you can offer some advice.

Just noticed that the timer I am installing on my D2 will do fault diagnosis and reset following lock out.
Not sure if it will work on your model(s) though.
Check with the seller 'Sarkblue' on ebay (eberspacher)
There may be a bit of rewiring if you wanted to fit one.
just possible I could lend you mine, I think the postage is only a couple of squids.

Hi,
I have a fault diagnosis function on my D4, the problem is I can't clear the fault code to reset the system. Or at least I think that's the problem.
I have an Eber Agent nearby, but I may not learn as much by taking that route.

Mine says fault diagnosis AND reset, Do you have the instructions for yours? is it like the one Sarkblue is advertising on Ebay?
I have instructions but have not yet studied the 'reset' section.

Couldnt download those files for some reason but have unearthed my hard copy. It discusses the 'interlocking' problem which occurs" if unit overheats 3 times in succesion when fault F15 is displayed, also " 10 failed starts in succession" when code F50 is displayed.
it then gives the procedure for clearing the fault.
It says these instructions apply to all air heater models so if you have the right 'Module Timer' you should be able to clear the faults.
I note that with my set up I would have to connect another wire (pink from the heater) to the timer.

I think I have most of these, but I will check them through again. I'm determined to solve it and understand it - it's getting cold down here in the SW. The Canadian Eber literature seems more detailed than the UK stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Guys I am pretty useless with all but the most basic of electrics. However my understanding is that if the lockout is of a non hazardous nature .. eg voltage drop, then once the problem is corrected it will reset itself. If it is a potential hazard like over heating , then it can cause a lock out that only an engineer can re set. I have looked at the hard copy for my heater which is the D1LC and 09 is TRS heater cut out.
I have a very simple controller which does not have a fault read out or means of resetting. Alan from Ebers who fixed mine has a small plug in box that he uses. He said that most of the problems he encounters are from poor installation which gives Eber a much maligned reputation. He recently came across one where the heat trunking had been laid adjacent to the electric cabling, causing a melt down!!

The manual says 3 succesive failed attempts due to overheating = lockout 10 succesive failed attempts (for other reasons)= lockout.
If you have solved the problem then possibly 'Alan' will just nip over and reset you?

The local ebers agent were very fair and are only charging me for the initial visit and work, not the re visit a week or so ago. Having felt how hot the ducting can get I am glad it cut out..the consequences of it not doing so would have been disastrous.
