You're missing the point. This isn't a question of managing or whether lock keepers are needed. Its about what we users WANT.

I doubt there's anybody that would not agree that we value and appreciate lock keeper services on the Thames and, in an ideal world, we would like to see every lock with a resident and sufficient reliefs and assistants to ensure an all day service during the season.

Unfortunately, 'them in charge' are telling us there's not enough money available to provide that level of service.

This government's mantra is "Those that use services, should pay for them".

Current opposition to the EA plans appears to be "We're not prepared to accept reduced services" coupled with "We're not prepared to keep paying increased charges". Hardly a tangible formula for solving the problem?

I feel my current £400 river licence is good value.

Walking alongside the River Lea this morning, looking at all those awful hand operated locks really bought it home!
The trick is to USE the River, enjoy the scenery and get your moneys worth. :D

Actually that is a very good point,if you only go out twice a year and used only two locks its £50.0 per lock,so the more times you go out and the further you go the better value it becomes.
