This could be an interesting season.

facebook have algorithms which promote negative content so anyone looking at fb will tend to get the impression that all the locks are failing.

There definitely are problems but I wonder if social media is causing an exaggerated negative sentiment and whether this might result in a very quiet season.

It will be interesting to see how this goes.

I've all but given up on returning for a Thames trip this season. I've seen Hambleden, Hurley, Marsh, Marlow (twice) all out of action in the last ten days. Plus the difficulty of timing a run up from Walton on the Naze to Teddington before they close for the evening. Going to do the Broads instead.

I agree, SWMBO wants to visit, but it all seems broken to me

You can add Boulters to your list - one of the lower gates has been a bit iffy for a year now (doesn't open fully) and I hear on the grapevine that its scheduled to be fixed NEXT YEAR..

Along with the negative slant to the algorithms, a few of the 'breakdowns' have been user errors, and one fairly regular fb poster claimed a broken lock because they had to handwind it during a power cut - if people used common sense at bit more often and didn't panic post before calling the helpline there'd be fewer posts causing concerns for the rest of us.

There have been breakdowns but most have been resolved to at least working relatively quickly, although full fixes will probably take ages since the EA prefers a quick fix over a complete redo of the broken components.

The bigger problem is the long-term restriction at Teddington for anyone travelling off the tideway, from what I've heard sounds like the lock staff are hoping to get the launch lock fixed before any real prospect of the barge lock culverts being fixed - and it doesn't look like any work is likely to be done there until next year.

Indeed and as someone that moors just below Teddington Lock that basically writes off my season. And I very much suspect most of next.
