Hi Folks,
Doe's anyone know of a firm who could quote a price for servicing a Loch Etive deep (25m.) water mooring. Have contacted North West Marine in Oban but for some reason they won't touch a Loch Etive mooring, have searched google with no result. Thanks. Ronnie.

Do you not know who laid it? Or have they retired?

I sold my first boat to a resident of Black Crofts & he had a mooring laid on the North side of the loch behind a small island. It was a lovely secure spot, I suspect a brick & a bit of baling twine would have been secure enough for most of the year. I certainly would have been happy lying to my anchor there.

Mind you the Falls of Lora were a bit of a restriction to passage making other than at HW.

bigman1 you could try posting on http://www.bluemoment.com/forum/index.php or looking through the directory section (top left hand tab). This is a Scottish centred sailing forum and many of the posters there will have direct experience and could answer your query.

Quite strong currents in parts of Loch Etive. Myself and some mates will be diving up that way in about 3 weeks time (we are ex commercial divers) Where is the mooring?

Your problem is the (understandable) reluctance of a mooring contractor to take on (and insure) moorings laid by others. You also have your own insurers to deal with, but only if the mooring breaks or drags.

Thanks for the offer, I was thinking of buying this neglected mooring but have received a better offer closer to the clyde.
Thanks again to all who replied. Ronnie.
