When I bought my 1969 ketch a couple of years ago, one of the first things I did was remove the old RDF set leaving the aerial fixed to the deck. This is a plastic device a bit like a frisbee which seems to have the DF aerial coiled inside it. I now want to fit an ordinary car-radio type set into the boat. Will this Locata serve as a good antenna for FM, or will it "null out" as the boat swings to her anchor?

"Suck it and see" I think would be the answer, give it a try. It shouldnt null out, unless it is the type you turned into line with a handle underneath, if not, it was probably an electronic "null" anyway give it a go.

Sure, I'll do that of course. I have just left my boat for a month or so and was wondering about the theory of it, really. The antenna itself was not adjustable: you found the null by turning the bakelite handpiece attached ot the antenna and this had a little compass mounted on top.
