There's a fair bit of planning, and stress on the day for the organiser of these events, hope everybody says thanks to Powerskipper /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Depending how many of you are coming, the harbour master in Dartmouth will reserve a pontoon for you.
I am not sure of the minimum number of boats you need though.
If you need any help or contacts then just PM me.
Cheers

I am pretty sure the Dartmouth harbour master would organise a pontoon for that number, it would be mid-river. In fact it looks like Longjohnsilver is on it at the moment in EOS!
Or if you wanted a marina, maybe Darthaven could do it for you.
When are you planning to come this way?

We did look at Dartmouth as an option, but will use Brixham because of overall facilities. Dartmouth or Salcombe will be visited for a day trip. We want walk ashore pontoons and Brixham have made arrangements for us all to be in the main marina with full power and water support.

In total we will probably be at least 15 boats possibly more as some have still to finally commit.

Dam, the regatta's on. Other than that, forget what this lot says. Brixham is a lovely place. We always stayed on the HM pontoon, much friendlier and cheaper than the marina. Natter to the crew on the old heritage boats, dine at the carvery, just at the end of the pontoon. Little bay on the right, on the way into harbour, great for kids, swimming and barbeque.

But if you cant go there, go to Teignmouth. Dead easy entrance, all tides. Forget what the almanac says. Loads of beaches and about a ten yard dinghy to the beach with a choice of pubs. HM adds up berthing cost, then divides by two. Cant be recommended enough, less of course yer the scurvy type that cant do without a marina

We are already booked in (negotiated rate, and some of the boats are MDL berth holders so can use their credits), so no issues. It was just to get an idea of what might be available ashore.

Thanks for the positive response. Julie is IC entertainment! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I find it surprising that 11-15 boats can turn up for a couple of nights and all get berthing accomodation in a marina, even with about 6 weeks notice.
Is this availability normal or is it because your trip is early in the season?
In my ignorance I'd have thought that the marina would be full of resident's boats, especially at "Regatta" time.

We have been in discussions with Brixham Marina since January and "reserved" the spaces about 6/8weeks ago. So in real terms it's been much longer. Powerskipper posted from the standpoint of asking for local knowledge to help her plan some onshore events. It's the same with Weymouth where we are on the HM pontoons in the center of the town and in Poole Town Quay

In fact the marina management at Brixham put us in the main area rather than on the visitors pontoon which does not have power or water.

This sort of thing takes some organising and we are now on the final stages of the plan. A lot of those coming are new to boating and our aim is to provide support and guidance to our clients. There will be a total of 5 instructors on hand and it has taken more than a few weeks to put together.

And the other thing is that yes it is early in the season, intentionally so owners can be more prepared for the rest of the season.

Hey, dont forget to take a couple of Mr Mendez boating DVD's with you!

Shame, I shall be in Sant Carles then, my sister in law's dairy farm is just up the road in Kingskerswell, I would have offered to be food taster at the BBQ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I could do you a trade for some! If you could arrange with your sister in law to have a nice half 50gallon oil drum with a nice grate and few bricks and say half a cow delivered to the beach we choose to BBQ on I could send you pictures of the vent and you'd get a virtual taste of it all!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
