here is the scenario, grp boat weighing about 2000kgs propped on wood on the ground. I need to get it onto a trailer, use a crane I would rather not - due to cost? is there a technique to be able to load it onto a trailer?? I suppose a trailer with rollers will help??

You may be surprised how cheap mobile crane hire is if they can fit you in on the back of another / other job. I lift in and out each year on mobile crane hire and it's a £100 that way. £1000 if you hire it for a day. Always worth asking around your local companies to see what they can offer.

Rollers will definitely help. I have done it straight off the beach with a smaller boat circa 750 kg by just letting the trailer front raise up as the boat climbs on. Had to be careful with the balance point so that is did not come crashing down. I don't think you want to be doing that though.

I have seen it done by getting the boat jacked up so the keel is level and about the same height as the trailer keel rollers. The trailer was hooked to the bow eye and winched underneath. Removing the keel supports as you go . This ONLY works if the width between your chine side supports is wide enough to let the trailer in between.

TBH a crane is much easier and safer .
