the carriage and associated systems were built by Supacat not far from me in Devon. The original design was by my long-term friend David Clayton, a brilliant engineer who worked with Issigonis on the Land Crab.

How do they protect the boat against running it up the beach at that speed? Can't do the hull a lot of good.

I'm not 100% sure but the hole it left up the beach was huge! The antifoul didn't last long!

This was only a test to check it withstood this punishment. They will usually recover it on the trailer unless theres a big following sea where they'll drive it up the rocks.

That lot looks like it was done up at the Craig-y-don end beyond the paddling pool why??? they have a proper launch slipway up the town end from the lifeboat house on Loyd St but it is a bit far from the Sea, I think it takes about 10 mins or more to just get there.
So is a new station to be built on the beach.?

You are correct they are building a new lifeboat on the beach next to the paddling pool and this new trailer is going to used. I havn't a clue way, it seems like a waste of money to me. In a north westly craig y don is much more exposed. The all weather hardly gets called out its mostly the ILB. Just seems abit of a waste of the charities money

It is a sight watching the tractor and lifeboat trundling through the town.

Anyone else remember then drowning the tractor? North beach '80 or '81 methinks.

The grounding was impressive, but watching the launch was like watching paint dry - I hope they can go a bit faster when there's a shout. :D
