Some advice sought from locals, please. Planning to cross from France tomorrow heading for Newlyn. Plan B is to anchor off the Lizard. Given the overnight forecast, light southerlies <5 knt and 70cm swell from SW, would you choose Cadgwith, Kynance or Housel...or none of the above?

Given the winds are swinging round to the west and strengthening I’d give Kynance a miss. I’d be more inclined to head for Coverack if you can‘t make Newlyn as you should avoid the swell you might get closer to the Lizard. Is Newlyn your final destination or are you heading on from there?
Thanks. Padstow next, I think.

If crossing from France I'm not at all sure it makes sense to anchor at the Lizard, although the anchorages there are my absolute favourites. In a Southerly they are pretty uncomfortable; as said earlier Coverack is about the only tenable one S of the Manacles in a southerly so it makes little sense not to push on to Newlyn (if that's really where you want to go). Are you sure of the Covid restrictions there for boats arriving from abroad? Will you even be allowed to enter?

falmouth would be your only port of entry as you will be required to quarentine for 2 weeks as from tomorrow 15 june, falmouth has port health who you will have to check with.
contact falmouth harbour commisioners, they are in charge of yacht arrivals at the moment £1000 fine for non compliance

With the winds from the West, Parnvoose Cove just North of Church Cove has good holding in sandy bottom, and is ideal for timing the tide around the Lizard.
If the wind has any Southerly component, forget it and head straight for Newlyn.
How you'll get on with Newlyn as a port of entry, I don't know.

If pushing off again, why not just anchor in Mounts Bay and avoid the quarantine regs.

i would be very careful about not reporting your arrival in the the uk even if coast hopping.
our quarentine laws are the most draconian in the world, FYI try bringing in a pet/animal illegally on a private yacht.

I suspect trying to fill in the standard online reporting form in these circumstances could be interesting:

"You’ll need:

  • your passport details
  • the name of the airline, train or ferry company you’re travelling with
  • the name of the company organising your tour group - if you’re travelling as part of a tour group
  • your booking reference
  • the name of the airport, port or station you’ll be arriving into
  • the date you’ll be arriving
  • your flight, train, bus or ferry number
  • the address you’ll be staying at for your first 14 days in the UK
  • details of someone who can be contacted if you get ill while you’re in the UK "

i had a chat with port health falmouth and reporting of all vessels entering uk waters is mandatory
big fines for those that fail to do so. here are the links they provided for reporting

08 June requirements came into play concerning isolation of certain individuals when entering the UK – The enforcing authority who are responsible for this is Border Force, with this in mind we would request all questions concerning this matter are discussed with them, as they will be able to inform you of the latest guidance and most up to date information. There helpline is as follows, however it’s worth noting that this is only operational during normal office hours: 0800 678 1767.

The below also provides some useful links concerning this matter
