Living in Port Solent?

Reply to l'escargot and others

Have they managed to stop the travellers congregating on the green over on the harbour side? That seemed to be a regular event several years ago.

There are ditches all the way along the road now so they would need tracked transit vans to get on there! We've had a berth at Port Solent since 1998 and have chased a few of their offspring away from the boat park over the years but I have not seen any around for a long time.

I believe that the landfilll closed two or three years ago (all gone green(ish) now if you look) and it is now just a typical local authority recycling centre receiving waste for shipment elsewhere.

Motorway noise isn't much of a problem in the middle of the marina and over the last few years there has been little or no problem with noise from the bars and restaurants. No point in OAPs or anyone else going to Tesco for any meal. Lloyd's on site is better (but not perfect) and cheaper.

As previously mentioned I suspect the real problem for residents is a total lack of local facilities within walking distance, other than Tesco and Fish and Chips. You really shouldn't go to the latter because then we won't be able to get a table whenever we want ;-).

Thanks for the great responses, just 2 more questions:

1) How long does it take (at 5-6 knots) to get from Port Solent to the Harbour entrance?

2) Is there any "club" racing from the Portsmouth area?

Thanks.

Thanks :)

What about noise between the houses (like if someone has a party or loud music next door)? Is this a problem? I have stayed in a terraced house before where you can hear everything happening, people going up and down stairs etc.

Thanks.
