Liveaboard life is good :)

Give me a while to check them over Ellie and i'll let you know, i'd hate to sell you something i hadnt tested to find that it is beyond repair

the first one that i have overhauled was so badly coked up, that the flinger wheel (if thats what its called!) had to have the carbon deposits drilled out to open up the fuel channels !, but it purrs like a kitten now when running

Are you speaking from personal experience? ;) :D

Why yes, yes, perhaps I am ;)

Hey, no worries.

I know what you mean about that wheel thing - I think it's the fuel atomiser/spinner. I had the same problem with mine (although it didn't require drilling out!), and ended up writing about it for PBO.

It is pretty good most of the time, though it does have its downside too - like when the water ran out about 6pm last night and I found myself sitting in a biting wind on a damp coachroof watching the hose for five minutes till it filled up! It has to be someone's law - your water tank always runs out at the most uncomfortable times...

Just five minutes! How big is your tank. I am not surprised it must run out every day:D

Hah, how about this - I've just run out of water too, went to top the tank up, all the hoses on the pontoon are totally frozen. Ah well, that's one way to get out of the washing up... but bloody means I can't fill my hot water bottle up tonight without a trek to the facilities to fill the kettle, then boil it :( Oh well - another mini adventure!

There are a few D3L's on Ebay at the moment. I'm looking for a second too so I can swap them around each winter.
Although I have looked at the D4 and D5 as an alternative.

I'm in NI at the moment, dry but cold outside temps only -1 to -4 just now, last year in Inverness it dropped to -14 and the eber coped well.

If the hose is coiled up, take it into the showers with you, then when you come out, you can fill your water tanks !

Last year I fitted one of these:
m167_m.jpg

Cheap (ca. €30) and cheerful, here. No more running out at awkward moments. It uses a multi-core cable with each contact cut to the relevant length when immersed.

I tee'd-off a clear plastic tube from the main tank output pipe into the hanging locker with the open end well above the tank level and ran the multi-core cable down that.

The unit uses an internal battery that is only used when checking the level, so last a very long time.

A point to note in preparing the cable - baring each core to the correct percentage level (could be logarithmically spaced if tank not a regular shape) - is that the earth return one should be bared mid-way between the bottom and top ones as resistance increases with water distance and will result in much dimmer LEDs if significantly further from the activated ones.

Looks interesting - nice, simple idea! The tank has a crude visual gauge fitted on the top, but it is necessary to raise the matress to see it and it can be a bit of a pain when we are using the forward cabin to store things. I've been thinking of replacing the gauge with an NMEA2000 tank sensor and linking it into the instruments, but it works out quite expensive - will have to research your suggestion.

Such a good idea but..

Wonderfully simple but the cable inserted in the tank would probably be toxic plastic.

It seems that very low parts per million of certain plastics are very toxic.

Developing non toxic probes would be a good solution.`

Endocrine disruptors can upset hormonal balance and lead to the growth of cancer including breast, uterine and prostate cancer.

Are there any non toxic insulators ....a

The cable is not immersed in the tank itself but in a tee-d off, verticle tube that mirrors the tank level and is therefore only marginally and minimally contributing to any water that ends up in the gut. I'm sure I ingest more toxins in other ways - heavy metals from certain meat products, for example.

Just finished hanging my new thermal curtains, its 22 degrees onboard thanks to my eberspacher purring away, just opened a beer, got a few squares of my favourite lint chocolate, tellys on and am sat back relaxing onboard in portsmouth harbour.

Life doesnt get much better than this :)

This I like the sound of! I take my hat off to you sir!

Sorry but I just had to put this.

WE WAS BRUNG UP PROPER !!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70’s
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank Sherry while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos...
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, bread and dripping, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.
Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds , KFC, Subway or Nandos.
Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on a Sunday, somehow we didn't starve to death!
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers and Bubble Gum.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter, milk from the cow,and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because.....
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O..K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY ,
no video/dvd films, or colour TV
no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
Lawsuits from these accidents.

Only girls had pierced ears!

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time....

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet because we didn't need to keep up with the Jones's!

Not everyone made the rugby/football/cricket/netball team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on
MERIT

Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and throw the blackboard rubber at us if they thought we weren't concentrating ..
We can string sentences together and spell and have proper conversations because of a good, solid three R's education.
Our parents would tell us to ask a stranger to help us cross the road.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!

Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiora' and 'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla'

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL !

:)
No school runs in a Chelsea Tractor for me either - I rode a bike six miles one way in heavy traffic and all weathers. And when a policeman on a motorcycle followed me home one dark night and stood at the door to complain about my rear light not working, I got hell from my parents.

My, how things have changed.

Wow! I did all that too!

So remind me again just why we do it?
Outside there is still snow and the temp is at or below freezing.
They turned the water off on the pontoons a week and a half ago to save them freezing and now we have just run out of water.
They have put extra boats in this marina whilst dredging so the main pontoon power relay keeps blowing
There is condensation each morning and the occasional drip from the headlining.
There is condensation on the walls of various cupboards so making things wet.
Changing gas bottles is a half mile hike as is the launderette.
Would we change is for a centrally heated house with all mod cons?
Never.
