Hello all,

We are planning to move the boat to Essex. Are there any marinas that would allow or tolerate liveBoard for a year or so?

The Chelmer and Blackwater does have some residential moorings, although I'm not sure of availability at the moment. You would need a BSC though.

Burnham Yacht Harbour say "Vessels berthed may not be used as static houseboats or for permanent residential purpose and must be kept in a mobile and seaworthy condition. The Owner shall at all times be responsible for the proper upkeep and safe condition of the vessel its gear and equipment (whether afloat or ashore) and maintain it in good clean and seaworthy condition and ensure the vessel is able to navigate under its own power at all times. Vessels must be seen to proceed out of the Marina on at least two separate occasions each year. "

But I doubt it is enforced, does not seem to be at Shotley, a sister marina.

There is, or should be, a big difference between "liveaboard" and "houseboat", surely. The fact that the boat can be moved probably indicates the first rather than the second. I would have thought the problem is more registering for the dreaded council tax and main postal address etc is more to the point. If you have somewhere else you can designate as your "home address" and can move the boat out of the marina occasionally there would be rather less of a problem?

Heybridge Basin? I have only visited and no idea of any regs etc., but I am sure there are a number of liveaboards there. Certainly would be a lovely spot to spend a year or so.
