Can anyone confirm that there are liveaboards in Eastbourne(UK)? I am planning to liveaboard there on a nice 40+ sailing yacht, not causing any trouble. Is that doable?
Thanks!!

Soverign Harbour - a rather large marina on the outskirts of Eastbourne. Seemed OK as modern marinas go when I visited a few years ago. No idea about liveaboards though.....

What an interesting question?

Where would you park the boat. From memory Eastbourne has a pier and lots of shingle beach. So I'd reckon 100:1 (not being a betting man) you'll be waiting a long time for an affirmative answer.

I thought Sovereign harbour belongs to Eastbourne, there's plenty of space to park a boat! If for some reason it doesn't, then Sovereign harbour I was talking about.
I am getting some hints to that it is possible to liveaboard over there, but a confirmation would add to confidence.

I think the op probably is looking at Sovereign Harbour

I have been there but not noticed any obvious liveaboards - lots of flats though!

There are no..official..liveaboards at Sovereign Harbour. If you turn up on a 40+ foot yacht and announce you intend to live aboard there, you may find the marina management have other ideas. You could however arrive quietly, obtain a berth and see if you like living in the shadow of high rise flats at many of the berths. Some boat owners seem to enjoy doing just that, living next to flats that is...:)

Sov resembles a movie set from an apocalyptic J.G Ballard dystopian nightmare, and you would have no chance of 'living' in the normal meaning of the word.
But have a look at Brighton, seems friendly and jolly, (for a marina), with acknowledged, if unofficial liveaboards, and a 'broadminded' laisser-faire style.

Was there five years ago ............odd plastic sort of place, but I met two live aboard's both on motor boats, neither were low profile.

Thanks guys you really make me thinking. I'm not very brave with the choice of a marina, just picking something in the area not far from where I live now. I also value being able to go (longer distance) cycling/sight seeing, not having to wait long for tides, and my girlfriend can probably find work in a supermarket nearby. I'm not terribly fussy with how the marina surroundings look like, but if it's an apocaliptic boat car park it doesn't sound like a very nice place.

Speaking of tides and convenience, you do know there is an entry lock at Sovereign Harbour? It has changed/developed much in the last few years. I've lived at Brighton Marina between voyages and know both marinas fairly well. Brighton marina has no lock entry, although if you are 40 foot plus you'll need to watch the entrance tidal depth if you draw much. Employment opportunities within both marina complexes is probably about the same now, as Sovereign has sprouted..:) If I were you I'd have a day out to both of them and do a recce, chat to some of the local crowd afloat etc: Good luck..:encouragement:

Thank you for your advice. I'll definitely have a look this week. I've already seen one of the marinas, only need to see another one. Looking forward to it!
