Liveaboard base in Solent?

I know this is an old chestnut, but work commitments draw me down to South Coast very often, and I am seriously considering using the boat as a floating base, and would stay on board during the week, potentially all year round.

Can anyone recommend marinas that are tolerant of this, and are reasonably priced? Hamble marinas are probably too pricey, how about Chichester, Portsmouth or Lymington? Any recent experiences would be very welcome!

I'd say a lot depends on where you need to travel to - diffent marinas different traffic probs

Look at Southsea...be sensible...and keep your head down...

In my opinion, tHere's nothing 'reasonable' in Lymington, and it would be useless for any regular rail connection.
We had pals who enjoyed several years livaboard right up the Hamble with manageable berthing costs, but beyond the bridges no possible if you've got a mast. PM if you want their details.

CM marinas in the Solent are Royal Clarence (Gosport) and Birdham Pool (Chichester)
