I agree with most of that, except yet another anti mobo comment. Those are starting to become irritating and is making me wonder if this forum might be in need of a name change to "East coast sailing boat meeting forum". Certainly, as a motor boat owner, i'm not feeling terribly welcome here.

Paul, I do not read this post as anti mobo in the slightest. It is anti a%%ehole however. I know the place well, and it is one of the most peaceful places anywhere,not that that would have any bearing on the occurrence.
In more than 20 years, I have nver had my early or late evening peace disturbed there.

Sorry you feel persecuted, I think that may be a first.

This was never about being anti motor boat, it was a comment on anti-social behaviour. [can you be anti-anti-social?].
My original post never mentioned whether the raft up was raggies or mobos, people just assumed. Motor boats often use this creek and are as welcome as any boat as long as they respect the peace & quiet.
I believe there is going to be a raggie rally there this weekend, so I'll avoid it again.

I am sorry you feel unwelcome. For my part I enjoy sailing because of the sense of being at one with the elements. There is always the great moment when I shut off the engine and can hear nothing more than the rippling of water at the bow and the cries of the birds across the marshes. I have based Jessie on the East Coast precisely because there is not the same pressure on the open spaces that I have seen along the South Coast.

I hope I am not intolerant but the sound of high powered engines does disturb the peace that I cherish; fortunately, because of the high speeds of a lot of the noisiest craft, not for long. But, as I have posted elsewhere recently, I generally experience great courtesy from those in motorboats and I hope I reciprocate that.

But I too have a low tolerance for those who show a complete lack of consideration for others, whether it is by playing loud music or swearing at the top of the voice. That doesn't matter whether it is in the Yokesfleet, in the high street or on the train. But I seek out the rivers and creeks to try to get away from such behaviour and, generally, I am successful.

I am sure you share my appreciation of the rivers and respect their wild and peaceful nature. And I hope you will continue to contribute to this virtual community.

Don't feel unwelcome mate. I may have 'rags n sticks' right now but i've only just sold my V8 motor cruiser, so I think i'm still just about in touch with 30kts.

Like most things, it's the minority of tw*ts that get remembered, be it the 'I can just make it past your bow if I put the hammer down' power boater or the 'I own a Yacht with a pretty flag so that makes me a class above you common folk' sail boat owner.

I'd go along with F.C. It's not the type of boat, it's the actions of the skipper and crew that sometimes mean they need to walk the plank.

Going back to the original thread, there were instant assumptions of bad practice and prompt use of the word "stinky". I'm a very considerate boater, so it is particularly annoying (not sure if annoying is the completely correct word, maybe somewhere between annoying/disappointing/upsetting) when i read the generalisation by some raggies that all mobo drivers are idiots. Granted, not everyone shares that assumption. We spend most of our time at sea, but when we return to the rivers we take care and try to consider our fellow boaters, whatever boat they might be sailing/driving. Perhaps the odd mobo speeding around is more noticeable than the odd raggie tacking and weaving all over the place, without even looking where he's going.

There most certainly are idiots out there, in charge of all types of boat. If we're talking anti-anti-social, then i'm at the head of the queue. I absolutely detest the anti-social idiots that disturb other peoples enjoyment of whatever it is they are doing. Whether it be idiot boaters or the ar5e 3 doors up with 8 German Shepherds that constantly bark or the bonfire he lights when the wind blows across the back of everyone's house. As far as i'm concerned, all rude, ignorant and inconsiderate people could be deported to an island where they can all irritate each other, or just shoot them all.

Most motor boat engines sound fine, in fact a V8 petrol sounds very nice, it's the putt putt of sailing boats that are annoying.

Have you heard them start up in the morning?
