Live aboard

Would be difficult to go very far wrong with an HR, even though I don't own one /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Check out Malo and Najad as well, all in the same mould and all top quality.

Southerly might be worth a look too (one of the larger models) they have this tremendous feature of being shallow draught at the push of a button...

We do like our IP, we have lived aboard her (and plan to do so again) and she was admirably fit for purpose - rock solid and very well engineered, as are all the boats above. My wife and I would probably go for the 465 or 485, if only we didn't have to worry about cost.

None of these are cheap, though, but you did imply your budget was "adequate" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for that Kioni,i have been looking at these other boats ,ive been looking now for maybe 2 months, there seems to be many good boats on the market ,i like the sound of the southerly,ie "shallow draught at the push of a button",,and yes i did say that my budget was adequate didnt i,i just hope people dont think i was bragging or anything because thats the last thing i would do,

Are the beam restrictions the same?

I saw another reference recently that 5m was ok, contrary to what I believed, but this may be on certain canals only.

I thought the Canal du Midi was the prettiest one anyway? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've done this trip 5 times now....we love it, and will definitely do it again.

The quickest we've done was 13 days from Pt St Louis to Le Havre in November 2003. This meant starting at dawn, going right through till the locks shut, and not taking a day off, regardless of weather. Hard work with 2, but we still enjoyed ourselves.

The longest we've taken is around six weeks. This was relaxing, allowed time for sightseeing, and yet still felt like we were making good progress. I'd recommend this approach.

Really, this is a lovely way to the Med from Northern Europe.

I've 'done' the Marne, Canal Du Centre and Burgundy routes.

All have sublimely beautiful stretches, lots of places to stop, and well organised canal infrastructure.

Lovely!!

Thanks for the info NeilB,,dont missunderstand me when i ask "how long it takes",i am just curios,i have and will have all the time in the world to get down there, yor idea sounds really great,of course depending on which boat i decide to buy, thanks again,Reginaldo, thanks for the support on the other thread, chears
