Little Ships Return to Dunkirk 2025

Worth highlighting that Ramsgate is now all but free of the Little Ships and open for 'normal' visitors
No Room at the Inn.
Love Ramsgate to bits but..........
Disappointed to listen to Port Control turn away a smallish yacht late one afternoon , seeking an over night berth and to get out of some really unpleasant weather.
Very little was moving that day except windmill support craft and pilots.
Yacht told that marina was full and that this skipper need needed to go to either Dover or Queenborough.
A blimming long way in one case and possibly a uncomfortable return in the other.
There were mooring spaces all around me, pretty certain boat could have been accomodated somewhere in the harbour.
Suspect the skipper would been just pleased to get out of the weather no matter where they put him.

Guess port control is not a small boater or that the marina was simply not communicating to port control the actual situation.

Yes, that concerned us on the way up from Eastbourne, but we were aware of the situation and 'phoned ahead to confirm; the boat should have declared an emergency through fatigue and set the coastguard + lifeboat onto port control....

I think I'd have gone in anyway as Rival Redwing has suggested, maybe a bit of 'sorry didn't catch that, you're weak and unreadable over...' before switching off the VHF.

It made uncomfortable listening and the skipper was requesting help in very undemanding manner.
He would have been at least 3 hours from Dover and 6 from Queenborough in thoroughly unpleasant conditions at thend of a long day especially if he had just come across the channel.

I really felt for the skipper but I guess Port Control were given the instruction to refuse anyone without a confirmed berth booked ahead.
Personally I'd have called up on Chanel 80 and speak with the Dock Master but hindsight is wonderful......

Ramsgate, I think I’m quoting this correctly ‘don’t take advance bookings but pride themselves on never turning anyone away,’

Port Control tried to turn me away too, insisting Nepos was not on their list. I had to firmly insist that we had booked with the organisers months before and they relented.

What a week away that was, escaping the French authorities to nearly fall foul of Ramsgate Port Control on your return!
