Little Boating Holiday booked

We have just booked a little cottage for a week on the banks of the River Fowey in Cornwall. Going to take the 17 foot bow rider and a SIB to explore the Fowey and the sea near by.

Anyone have any experience of this area they would like to share

Lantic Bay just round the corner to the East is nice.
Mevagissey is lovely; you can generally stop in the harbour long enough to pick up fish & chips.
Charlestown is very picturesque.

I d consider towing down to Falmouth..cant be that far..good slipway next to pendennis marina and well organised. Or Mylor..appreciate not exactly Fowey but Fal estaury has some of the best day boating in tbe Uk as long as it isnt easterlies...Seriously...take a day or so..you can probably leave the boats at Mylor...
You will not regret it... on balance.. Mylor..lovely place

Did exactly the same last week from Polruan . Well worth a trip round the corner to Polkeris beach and tender in to Sam's on the beach for luch or dinner. Polperrow is also a must,we are 38 feet and had to moor on fore and aft buoys in the harbour entrance but you can probably get away with just swinging on one buoy and save the hassle,worth phoning the harbour master on availability first.We didn't make it to Looe but people recommend it highly.To use visitors mooring inside the southern pier in Mevagissey you may need a fender board Hope you have a great week.

I had another little adventure in the last 2 days. I had a 600 mile round trip (Suffolk to Devon) and a night in Devon to collect this little baby. They are as rare as Rocking Horse Do Do cos of their light weight for a motor that will get my little 3.2 m sib on the plane.

My little 3.2 m sib is an aluminium floor with air keel so it will fold up and go in the car (ie does not need to be towed on a trailer) This means that if we go away in our caravan we can take this for a little fun on the water. I am going to take it to the Fowey to explore upstream etc.

These are very difficult to come by and this one is immaculate under the hood. If you ever see one for sale at a reasonable price grab it quick

Our first ever boat had a tohatsu 8hp 2 stroke outboard. It was a ~3m zodiac inflatable back in 1985 ish.

The fishermans arms in golant is worth a trip at high tide. I went up with my father (longjohnsilver) in our respective tenders which in itself is a nice trip. When we arrived we watched the water slowly flood over the road which was different to anywhere else I have been.



The only restriction you may have to be careful of is the clearance under the bridge.

Tested out the new to me 9.8 hp Tohatsu 2 stroke on the tender today and was very pleased. Should be able to make use of it on this trip. This tender has the blow up keel and ali floor so can pack up and go in the speed boat or our caravan when we travel. So a second little boat that we don't have to tow and with the 9.8 hp quite a lot of fun
