Does anyone have experience with these brands of Lithium batteries. Both offer a heated version that seems a worthwhile additional benefit. Certainly Sterling have a good reputation but SKANBATT is new entity to me.

Yes of course. Google first, ask forums second! Tabena is a website selling the battery, so likely to be biased. The YouTube I also saw but doesn't say anything about the quality, although visually it looks good. I also visited the Skanbatt website. Skanbatt does have a 8 year warranty but that's not much use far out to sea!

Yes, we have Sterling Lithium, bought before the heated version became popular. However, since we stay in the water during the winter and the Solent water temps are above 5'c we don't need to to worry. If we came out of the water for a winter and the temperature drops to 0'c then you shouldn't charge them. Hopefully the BMS will be set to stop you too. If you search YT you will find a series of videos about Sterling products. Also on YT is the "Solent Butler". George does some great work re-fitting older Contessa's but has a nice Sterling Installation on his own Westerly.

Skanbatt, don't know anything about them. Are they just re-badged batteries from China?

You might also look at Life Batteries in Falmouth. Mark the owner is very active on the 12v boating group on FB and stands by his products.

Nothing wrong with using Google, provided one is smart enough to be able to filter the dross from the good stuff. Not everyone can do that.

Also, some people use Google to find something to support their erroneous posts or misconceptions, even if what they have found is total garbage.

THIS MAY BE JUST SOME GOOGLE GARBAGE!;)

I wonder if this is any help at all? I suppose you know it already? (Sorry if that is the case)

They are a Norwegian company . They import the battery but from where?

About us

Her finnes også vår butikk, PROVOLT.

About us

SKANBATT is an importer and total supplier of batteries and battery-related equipment.

We have been dealing with batteries for over 30 years and our overall goal is to be a leading player on the Norwegian market, but we also have ambitions that extend beyond our national borders.

We work with the world's largest battery manufacturer, Clarios, which produces, among other things, the well-known Varta batteries. Varta is originally installed in many car brands and we can highlight well-known German brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW.

We also have a very close and close collaboration with several of the largest and most respected manufacturers in the world. Strong partners such as: Victron, Optima, Hyundai, Rolls, EnerSys, TopBand, Noco, Lemania, Trojan and Ritar can be mentioned here, to name the most important.

We have been far ahead in terms of technology, and were one of the first in the Nordics with Lithium consumer batteries. We ourselves have helped develop and adapt these to demanding Nordic conditions and launched them under our own brand name: SKANBATT. We also have solar panels, regulators, inverters and solar fans in the SKANBATT brand. In addition, we have in-house developed quality chargers which we have called Nor Charger.

Our main warehouse is located in Kristiansand, which is very favorable in terms of imports from large parts of Europe. Our shop, PROVOLT, is also located here. In addition, we have a warehouse and a PROVOLT store in Oslo, so that we can serve our customers in the capital quickly and efficiently.

Several of our suppliers are based in Europe, which ensures short delivery times for these products.

SKANBATT is perhaps the battery importer in Norway that has had the greatest growth in recent years. From 2016, when we changed our name and went "all in" with batteries and battery-related equipment, to 2021, turnover has almost quadrupled. We have gone from 15 employees in January 2020 to 31 employees at the beginning of 2022.

Our goal is for everyone in Norway to know who we are, and we will achieve this in cooperation with our strong partners and loyal customers.

Sterling Lithium batteries - would not buy again.

I have had X6, 120 amp batteries direct from Sterling. Recently Daly, the BMS manufacturer, auto updated the sofware which scrambled the BMS. Effectively Ive lost all of the Bluetooth app readings although the batteries seem to still be working ok..... Daly have told me to open up the sealed batteries to hard reset the BMS after downloading some software tools etc. However Sterling are saying don't do that..... No fix currently available and not looking like its coming anytime soon.

Sterling tech advice wont have it, just read about it on the web, google Daly BMS update! Never would I touch anything with Daly equipment in it again, cheap Chinese rubbish in my opinion. Wish I'd gone with Victron batteries but the price put me off. Guess you get what you pay for these days.

TW, if you have an IOS phone then there is a another app to connect to a Daly BMS called SBT. I have just started using it in place of the Daly App, but seems much quicker to connect.

Thanks Pete, unfortunately running an Android.

Tried all sorts including managing to reinstall the older software versions via the Daly programming app which sort of worked but the BMS still needs hard resetting which means opening the battery up.

Did you have the same issue? Only seemed to affect the newer versions....

Victron next time for me!

Sort of the same problem. The IOS (iphone) software App updated Christmas time (ish) and now takes a while to first find the battery and then display the data. I don't blame Sterling, this is a Daly problem with a poorly tested software app update. The battery BMS itself is fine. Currently have the Daly 2.1.0v software on the phone and I think the battery BMS software is 210402. I don't think that's a date because we bought our 120Ah from Sterling in early 2021.

If you have 6 x 120Ah, I wouldn't open them up but wait for Daly to fix it, though that might take a while. Any chance of borrowing or begging an old iPhone? I am using the kids 'hand me ups' :D after they upgraded. Apparently an iPhone 8 isn't cool anymore. I also have a spare which I take sailing as well, just in case mine goes splash.

I guess thats an advantage of having cool kids wanting the latest phones :) - the hand me downs.

Xmas was the same time mine went weird too. Fancy putting out auto updates without fully testing!

I wont hold my breath re Daly sorting this out fast time. I did manage to speak to someone from Daly who sort of tried helping but eventually they stopped responding, I guess when they realised the software back fix did not fully work. They kept saying a BMS reset was the way to go. Another issue with having a drop in type battery!

They are working fine but I find the loss of all the batteries parameters somewhat disconcerting. Its nice to see the safety values are all correct etc and watching whats happening when they are on charge.

Do you think they will fix it?

I have written before on here about Sterling LiFePo4 batteries and my experience with their knowledge and expertise (or lack there of) I would probably choose anyone but Sterling . PM me if you want details and can't find the old thread
