Hi,

I've got a Lister LPW2 2 cylinders diesel engine on my boat.
I was wondring if anyone here know how can i cold-start it, or maybe hand crank it?

thank you.

Hi,
What exactly do you mean by cold start?
You don't mention weather this is the LPW2 or LPW2S engine. The LPW2 is a direct injection engine and as such is fitted with a glow plug in the intake manifold for use on cold mornings. The LPW2S is an indirect injection engine and as such has glow plugs fitted in the pre-combustion chambers in the cylinder head to be used on each start of the engine. Upon shutting down either of these engines the fuel rack is automatically positioned in such a position as to provide over fueling to the engine upon the next start, this mechanism disengages when the engine reaches a predetermined RPM. If your engine is of the indirect injection type (LPWS) ensure that the glow plugs are operating correctly. It is not possible to hand crank these engines due to the lack of a decompression system which would be very involved to retrofit as these engines use a hydraulic tappet system-meaning no requirement to ever adjust valve clearances. The easiest option for a manual start system would be the fitting of a spring loaded starter-ie a Simms starter or similar. If you can be more specific as to your problem I may be able to help further.
Hope this is of some use.
